Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q. Do I have to identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*, Queer, and more (LGBTQ+) to attend this summit?

A. No. You do not have to identify as LGBTQ+ to attend this summit. With that said, we do prioritize students who identify as LGBTQ+ as the value of this summit to keep our queer students at the center of the experience.

Q. I am questioning my sexuality and gender, but I’m not sure where to start. Where can I find help?

A. Attending Queer I Am may be a great start to exploring your identity! This summit is aware of people at all varying stages of their identity. This is a great starting place to be in community who are supportive of your process. Highline College also offers free counseling sessions and is a great confidential place to talk to a trusted person. You can schedule an appointment with a skilled counselor who specializes in LGBTQ+ experience or visit during their drop in hours, Monday through Friday, 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. For more information, visit https://counseling.highline.edu/

Q. I am not out of the closet about my sexuality and/or gender identity. Is it safe for me to attend this summit? Will I be outed?

A. Highline College recognizes the importance of confidentiality and asks all participants to honor that anything shared at the Summit is kept confidential. While the feeling of safety is an individual experience, the Queer I am Summit’s goal is to create a safe environment for all attendees and Highline College strives to ensure the safety of all individuals. It is part of the expectation to attend this summit that all participants understands the importance of respect and each individual’s process of their identity.

Q. I can’t wait until March to learn about LGBTQ+ experience. Are there other resources available?
