Safe Zones Training

Highline College Safe Zones Training

Safe Zones is a program identifying individuals in the school community who are safe and supportive allies of LGTBQIA students and faculty.

The LGBTQIA task force has been working diligently on creating curriculum for the safe zones training that not only provides information that may seem basic or at the 101 level; but also content that is useful in your classrooms and with your colleagues.

We are providing a training series that will provide opportunities for our campus to attend, and if both sessions are attended attendees receive a certificate of completion and are also provided with a safe zone placard that you can place in your office or cubicle. The visible placement of a Safe Zone placard allows individuals who identity within the queer community feel safe and more likely to feel a part of our community.

Please join us and learn more about the queer community, build skills to use with your colleagues and in your classroom.

Upcoming Safe Zones Training

Safe Zones Training is typically offered as a two part series. This is also part of the new curriculum, so if you have attending a Safe Zone training older than 2 years you will want to attend this training. Once completing both parts, attendees will receive a Placard that you can place in your office that allows staff, faculty, and more importantly our students that your office is a “Safe Zone”. Our hope is to have all of campus go through the training. We hope you can join us.

This training is for students only. Safe Zones trainings for faculty happen each quarter, so we ask that faculty respect this space for students.
